Science Interactive Notebooks
are a creative way to engage students to process information and demonstrate critical thinking.  The right side of the Science Interactive Notebook is the Teacher Input side.  This is all the information that you want the students to learn and know.  The left side of the Science Interactive Notebook is the Student Output side.  This side is where students use information from the teacher input side (right), and creatively processes that information.
Notes and PowerPoints
prepared by Nitty Gritty Science save you time and help you with presenting a successful lecture. The notes serve to guide students through the teacher’s presentation and are editable so you, as the teacher, can adjust the information you want the students to fill in. The editable PowerPoint helps the teacher present the content in an orderly fashion using visual aids to enhance the presentation.
Demonstrations
in the science class are an important teaching experience that invite scientific discussions and can help uncover misconceptions. An effective demonstration has enormous potential to promote inquiry, illuminate key concepts and, most importantly, lead to heightened curiosity and interest of the topic being studied.
Labs
are conducted by students to develop their skills for collecting data and producing evidence to solve a problem or to support or reject their hypothesis. In particular, lab work uses processes that are referred to as inquiry process skills which include observing, predicting, classifying, measuring, inferring, controlling variables, manipulating materials, interpreting data and experimenting.
Science stations
are designated locations in the classroom with activities that challenge students to apply what they have learned and build on their understanding of the concept being taught. Nitty Gritty Science curriculum is based on the 5E model and utilizes science stations as the ELABORATION component because they provide an engaging way for students to extend their knowledge and skills by working independently of the teacher in small groups or pairs.
Task cards
are a collection of review cards on a science topic that have only one task per card for students to complete. This helps students focus on the idea being reinforced and doesn’t overwhelm them with a review packet jammed with questions. There are so many options on how to use task cards for review, such as game-style review, group review, one-on-one tutoring, bell ringers, exit slips, the list goes on.
Chapter tests
are an important part of science assessment.  Tests prepared by Nitty Gritty Science use a variety of item formats that help assess different levels of student thinking and skills.  The items used in the tests include multiple-choice, completion, interpreting diagrams and essays.  However, if more would like to be added, all tests are editable.
